    Hi.

My daughter wants to be an RCA and I have been looking at various colleges and investigating what they offer. I have had the name of your college given to me several times now. Can you tell me how I can look at your curriculum? Will your training open up opportunities for my daughter to work in both facilities and in home based care? What is your success rate with employment after they graduate?

I just want to make sure she goes to the right college. I find that the fees vary a lot but some of the people that I have spoke to that have done the cheaper courses seem to have some employment problems when they finish. I want to avoid this as I don’t want her to have a student loan to pay and no job.

    Thanks for any help.

      Hi Colleen:

Thanks for dropping in on us. I will be happy to answer your question. You can learn a lot more about our college on our website at:

      http://www.bcdrakemedox.ca/college/index.htm

The curriculum is posted on the site.

Our training will certainly open up every possible avenue in both facilkity and community care to your daughter. The program is unique in that it will provide her with a dual diploma/certificate as both a Resident Care Attendant and Community Health Worker. We also provide valuable and practicum in both areas. Your question about employment after graduation is a valid one. For more thoughts on this topic you may want to visit http://www.rcatrainingbc.com
Our success rate with employment after graduation is high. We put a considerable effort into assisting our graduates in finding employment and offer access to our Project Healthcare Employment to all our new graduates. This initiative provides direct contact with employers and helps our graduates to find positions in both facilities and community agencies. Typically around 80% of our graduates have positions that are generated through our network with employers within the first couple of weeks of graduation. Some choose to find their own positions in private care.

I am thinking of coming to Drake to study. I am interested to know if you encourage and help your students to form study groups? I think that studying with others outside of class could be really helpful. Can you tell me if you think this is a good idea and if you think it is helpful?

      Hi Diane,

So sorry no one has responded to this yet. It won’t happen again!

I have found study groups to be very helpful, when used effectively. Some classes self-form study groups with no assistance from us. This proved to be so successful for them we began encouraging all classes to form groups; however, some students are not that interested. It really depends on the students’ learning style, and/or if there is a prevalent style in a particular class. We would definitely help students to form study groups if they felt it would enhance their understanding of a topic or course. This is a great question, thank you for posting it.
