Let’s Build A Community!

While our website informs you of what we offer at Drake Medox College, it doesn’t tell the story of what drives us to do what we do. While it informs you of the courses available, it doesn’t speak to “the bigger picture” of what we are trying to accomplish – our real vision for community health care workers.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE QUALITY  OF LIFE – IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU

We started Drake Medox College with the goal to improve care aide education – to enhance care for the frail and elderly members of our community, and to ensure our graduates attain significant job satisfaction by being fully prepared, and confident in themselves and the job they do. But it has become so much more than that. It is about how much we value the type of people, both men and women, who wish to pursue a career in this field. It’s about respect for those whose compassion drives their desire to help others, and so choose a career in community care. It’s about immigrant men and women who choose Canada as a destination for a better life, through a career in this industry. It’s about the tenacity of foreign-trained nurses who must start over in Canada because there is not international recognition of their nursing education. And it’s about those of you still in your home land, waiting for the opportunity to come to Canada, through the Live In Caregiver Program. You are all the ones we are reaching out to, to build a community of health care workers with a common goal – to achieve a quality education, support from your peers, life-long learning opportunities, and life-long friendships with others who share your dreams of fulfilling your personal goals in health care, in Canada.

TOGETHER WE CAN CREATE A VISION – AND TOGETHER WE WILL ACHIEVE OUR GOALS

Our vision currently includes responding to the needs of potential care aides by offering the very best health care training in community care, to become THE destination college for people around the world who want to be part of this growing community of community health care providers, and for British Columbia, Canada to offer the highest quality of community health care to the frail and elderly, through our graduates.

But is that good enough for you, to inspire you and others around the world like you, to be part of that community?  If not, PLEASE – Help us to create a Big Picture Vision for Drake Medox College that captures what YOU want in a quality health care education, to make Drake Medox College YOUR community.  We invite you to share your thoughts on what a college SHOULD envision for students and future community care aides.

Never mind the college’s goals to be successful. The question is, how can we make YOU successful? Help us to help YOU create the education experience that will not only qualify you for well-paid work, but also give you a feeling of belonging to a community that shares experiences, stories, and ideas to build on what is becoming the fastest growing sector in health care, all with the goal to raise awareness of the issues you face as care aides, to give you the recognition YOU deserve.

Share your vision with us, and we will create ONE vision that is collectively ours, and post it on our website. We invite you to send the link to at least ONE friend, to see if they have ideas they’d like to share. If you don’t wish to put it on the blog, please send it to me at sgooding@na.drakeintl.com.

Thanks SO much for your time and efforts, to our alumni, current and future students, and Friends of Drake Medox College.

In anticipation of your feedback,

Susan Gooding, Manager, Quality Standards
