A word from healthcare recruiters:
There are many changes quietly taking place in healthcare that will affect RCA`s and CHW`s.
The introduction of a registry for HCA`s; the new and all-encompassing term for Resident Care Attendants and Community Health Workers, is just one of them.
In the future, people wishing to train as an HCA will need to choose their college and curriculum carefully. The college must be registered and accredited and also providing a curriculum that meets the Provincial curriculum for HCA`s.
At this time many of the colleges are “working towards“ that but our research has shown us that the only college that currently teaches a curriculum that not only meets but exceeds the provincial curriculum is in fact, Drake Medox College.
Looking forward into the future, we foresee that HCA`s will need to step up to the plate and keep their education up to date by attending workshops and seminars. After all, changes in the way we provide care doesn`t only happen in a way that alters the approach for RN`s and LPN`s. It also impacts the care delivered by resident care attendants and community health workers also.
As recruiters, we know that one thing does not change. Employers will always pick the best person for the job. To make your resume stand out you have to show your commitment to your field and that means keeping you knowledge and skills up to date through education.
So if you are looking to enter into healthcare training as an HCA, do your homework and choose your college very carefully. It is not just a case of getting the education at the cheapest possible cost, in fact, doing so may be very costly when you start to apply for positions.
If you are already trained, keep an eye on the college websites for up to date information on what is being offered that will keep you among the best and most up to date caregivers.

I just read the article. I have heard about this registry coming. It looks like we graduates are going to be good for employers in the future. I would like to be able to do more workshops and things to keep my skills up.
